Grandfather Pleads Guilty in Toddler's Cruise Ship Death
Man Admits to Negligence in Granddaughter's Fatal Fall
The grandfather of an 18-month-old girl has pleaded guilty to negligence in her death aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship.
The man, whose name has not been released, entered the plea in federal court in Miami on Tuesday.
The girl, Chloe Wiegand, fell to her death from an open window on the 11th floor of the Freedom of the Seas ship in July 2019. Her grandfather, who was holding her at the time, has said he thought the window was closed.
The man faces up to one year in prison when he is sentenced on March 24.
Royal Caribbean has settled a wrongful death lawsuit with the girl's family.
